In an increasingly complex and interconnected world, engineering design plays a vital role in addressing global challenges. Emerging technologies offer vast potential, but their integration into real-world systems requires thoughtful design choices—especially when considering sustainability, resource limitations, and societal impact. At the intersection of research and practice, new approaches are needed to bridge theory and application in meaningful ways. ICED27 invites the international design community to engage in this dialogue and to shape the future of engineering design together.

The conference programme will feature plenary sessions, podium presentations, and interactive discussion forums. Distinguished academic and industry speakers will provide thought-provoking keynotes. In addition, the Design Society General Meeting, the Special Interest Group Day, and the Young Members’ event will create ample opportunities for exchange and engagement. An Industrial Day will provide deeper insights into sustainability-driven innovations and connect participants with local industry focus areas. Finally, social events will offer the chance to experience the cultural and culinary highlights of Hamburg and northern Germany.
